Strawberry banana frozen yogurt

A few weeks ago my friend posted a photo of her delicious looking frozen yogurt. I don’t remember if I’ve ever tried frozen yogurt before going vegan. If I did I probably didn’t like it much because I really don’t remember eating the stuff. But like I said, my friend’s frozen yogurt looked good and it got me wondering. I’ve never heard of a vegan version so I just went ahead and made my own. I did a little Googling and found that everyone pretty much used the same method. Frozen fruit combined with your choice of vegan yogurt whirled around in the food processor and then frozen until firm.

I used 1 small frozen banana (I cut it into chunks prior to freezing) and Strawberry Amande Cultured Almond Milk Yogurt. Some people added sweetener to theirs, but I thought mine was just fine without. Of course I found that out after adding agave resulting in an overly sweet frozen yogurt. Anyway, I let my frozen yogurt freeze overnight and then left it sitting on the counter for a few minutes until it softened enough to scoop out of the mason jar. For toppings I went with fresh blueberries, unsweetened coconut, and slivered almonds. It was quite delicious. I so wish I could make a coffee/mocha version. But this strawberry banana version will keep me content until then!

I never liked frozen yogurt when it was first popular in the late 80s, but I think it tastes a lot better now. Or maybe my palate has matured? I don’t know! I had no idea making it was just as easy as sticking it in the freezer!

@Kiersten @ Oh My Veggies: I don’t know if the texture is any different. I’m actually curious to know if there IS a difference. Considering this is just a super quick version of the real deal there has to be some differences.

This experience has me wanting an ice cream maker though. I really want to tackle ice cream making.

Mmmm, I want to go to there!

I have had dreams about making things with dairy-free yogurt (yes, I am crazy). In my photo you may have noticed my cup was very little froyo- I worry so much about getting sick from it! But 1/3 cup or so doesn’t usually bother me, and it is such a great accompanyment to fresh fruit.

Slivered almonds on top sounds sooooo good. I keep forgetting to buy any nuts when I shop.

You freeze your mason jars? Ever had trouble with that? I’ve been thinking about picking up some of the tiny little 4-oz ones and doing single-servings of coconut ice cream and nice applesauces.

@Echo S.: *gasp* Forget to buy nuts? I have so many containers full of various nuts and seeds. I’m almost positive that I’ll never run out hahaha.

I do freeze them! I’ve never had any issues. I’ve jarred up tons of leftover soup and kept them in the freezer for like up to a month with no issues at all. So much easier storing those tiny jars in the freezer than bulky tupperware.
