So Delicious Almond Plus

March 15, 2012 | 12 Comments »

The wonderful people from So Delicious sent me some goodies last week. Have you heard of their new Almond Milk line? I first caught wind of it a few weeks ago. The moment I heard I was ready to run out the door to try and track some down. Until I learned that it wouldn’t be in stores until March. So you can imagine just how excited I was to receive these goodies.

When my packages arrived I opened them up and laid the products across the table. I took a step back and just stared at it all for a minute. It really was a thing of beauty. Then I thought ‘Which one do I try first?’ I reached for a spoon and dug into the Mocha Almond Fudge. At first I was hit with that mocha flavor. Very subtle coffee flavor with a hint of chocolate and bits of almonds. But the thing that REALLY got me was the creaminess. I just couldn’t get over that. This tasted especially good scooped on top of a warm brownie and topped with some whipped cream. Seriously. I was in heaven.

As great as the Mocha Almond Fudge was, I think my absolute favorite is the Butter Pecan. I really wanted to turn this one into a milkshake, but I’m ashamed to admit that my test tasting led to me eating half of the container. I seriously could not put that spoon down! I suppose I could use the remaining ice cream to whip up a milkshake. With the sudden nicer weather that might be just the thing to cool me down. I’ll report back on this!

My son and I both loved the bars. Like me he’s a pretty big ice cream lover. His favorite was the Vanilla Bars and mine were obviously the Mocha Almond Fudge Bars. And at only 150 calories per bar I didn’t feel one bit guilty eating one.

I’d have to say my least favorite was the Vanilla ice cream. But I was never really a plain vanilla ice cream type of gal. However, after reading Noelle’s review and hearing about her fancy float, I figured I’d give it a try. Mixed with some root beer and I was in float heaven.

Now onto the Almond Plus Milk! I absolutely love So Delicious Coconut Milk. I never thought I’d find another non-dairy milk that would top it. And it’s still a VERY close call. But I’m going to say that I like the Almond Plus more. I’ve done quite a bit of baking with it. In fact I posted a recipe just a few days ago. I also use the Vanilla Almond Plus to make my iced chai tea lattes. But for me what really made me side with the Almond Plus was the added protein. Almond Plus contains 5 grams of protein! Naturally I use it as a base for my morning and sometimes post-workout protein smoothie. See recipe below for one of my favorite protein smoothies.

Ingredients

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. I’ll probably use the unsweetened Almond Plus once it’s available in stores. I much prefer my milk unsweetened. But here is the nutrition content for the recipe as is.

Calories: 340 Fat: 15 g Sugar: 23 g Sodium: 131 mg Protein: 20 g Iron: 34.5%

Sometimes I change it up and substitute 1 tablespoon of the almond butter for 1 teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa powder. It really depends on my mood.

AHHH! I am still SOOO jealous of you! I am really looking forward to summer and trying these- now I’m most looking forward to Butter Pecan ; )

I’m already a big fan of their coconut frozen treat line. They sell them at Whole Foods right next to Kevin’s favorite ice cream shop, so while he and the kids get ice cream I often run in to grab a carton of So Delicious (but I’ll admit, I have more than once come out with four cartons hehehehe).

P.s. your pictures are great, are they with the 50?

I love the almond plus and the ice creams too! the almond plus makes for a great creamy indian chai tea! love your post workout smoothie.

I liked them.

I think. I kind of fail at Facebook.

I’ve been following Expo West like a hound and cannot wait until these babies hit stores. SoDel is constantly pumping out creative products. I’m pretty devoted to my 365 unsweetened almond milk but the ice cream looks life-changing

Glad you tried a float!
