20 Questions Vegan MoFo style

Thanks to Keri from I Eat Trees, I have something to blog about today. Today is one of those Cream of Wheat days. No worries, I won’t bore you with a photo of my steaming hot cup of the creamy wheaty goodness.

What is one food you thought you’d miss when you went vegan, but don’t? Cow’s milk in my coffee. Surprisingly that’s the only thing I had a hard time with when I decided to go vegan. It took me a LONG time to get used to soy. Now? I love me some soy creamer.

What is a food or dish you wouldn’t touch as a child, but enjoy now? Beans! I hated beans before going vegan. Shortly after I went vegan my mother-in-law made some tostadas and made some with just beans for me and my brother-in-law (he’s vegetarian). I didn’t want to look at it let alone eat it. But my husband told me to at least try it before passing it up. I’m glad I listened to him. One of my favorite foods today is a black bean burger.

What vegan dish or food you feel like you “should” like, but don’t? Honestly? Tofu. It’s not that I don’t like tofu. I just like it a certain way and I have to be in the mood for it. There’s a restaurant in NYC that makes an awesome tofu club sandwich. If I knew how they made their tofu I’d probably eat it more often.

What beverage do you consume the most of on any given day? The answer to this should be water and I assure you I’m working hard to make that so. I drink equal amounts of coffee, juice and water.

What dish are you “famous” for making or bringing to gatherings? Usually any type of baked good. Cookies and cupcakes mostly.

Do you have any self-imposed food rules (like no food touching on the plate or no nuts in sweets)? Not really.

What’s one food or dish you tend to eat too much of when you have it in your home? Sweet & Sara Cinnamon Pecan Marshmallows. It’s hard to stay away from the fridge knowing they’re in there. Oh so delicious! Oh and avocados. I’ll find any way to use them.

What ingredient or food do you prefer to make yourself despite it being widely available prepackaged? My own sauce. Jarred/canned sauces taste really bad to me now. I can’t believe I lived on that stuff for so long. Homemade is SO much better.

What ingredient or food is worth spending the extra money to get “the good stuff”? I REALLY love Justin’s Nut Butters. The Maple Almond Butter is my favorite! So addicting.

Are you much of a snacker? What are your favorite snacks? Oh yes! It really depends on my mood, but here are the items I usually go for, Sweet & Sara marshmallows or smores, Newman-O’s, Annie’s Naturals Chocolate Chip Bunny Grahams and whatever else floats my boat. :)

What are your favorite vegan pizza toppings? I really love vegan Hawaiian style pizza, but I mostly go with spinach and cheese.

What is your favorite vegetable? Fruit? Yikes! This is a tough one. Avocado and tomato are considered fruits, right? If that’s the case those two are tied. As far as vegetables go it’s a tie between brussels sprouts and asparagus.

What is the best salad dressing? Organicville Thousand Island Dressing and my homemade ranch.

What is your favorite thing to put on toasted bread? Strawberry jam or Justin’s Nut Butters.

What kind of soup do you most often turn to on a chilly day or when you aren’t feeling your best? OMG! This one is SO easy. French Lentil Soup with Tarragon and Thyme from Veganomicon. I could be in bed dying and would get up just to make myself that soup. I swear it has some sort of super powers.

What is your favorite cupcake flavor? Frosting flavor? Besides the cupcakes I make myself the only cupcakes I will eat are from Sweet Avenue Bake Shop. They have the most amazing flavors so it’s really hard to choose a favorite. But I always did lean more toward their Boston Cream. However, when in season Apple Pie, Margarita and Pina Colada are seriously to die for.

What is your favorite kind of cookie? Chocolate chip!

What is your most-loved “weeknight meal”? A simple tomato sandwich. It’s simple and tasty.

What is one dish or food you enjoy, but can’t get anyone else in your household to eat? It used to be eggplant, but now my son eats it so I guess nothing?

How long, in total, do you spend in the kitchen on an average day? I should probably move my bed in there. Seriously. It’s my favorite room in the apartment. In fact when we move into our own house I have plans to make my kitchen more cozy by adding a touch screen computer (built into my wall). It would be easier to access recipes, upload photos and blog right from where the magic happens. Ok so there’s no magic happening in my kitchen… YET. There will be though. Just you wait and see.
